Almost one year ago on March 25, 2020 in the Pleasant Hill Plaza, Alex Khodadad sat in his real estate office during the beginning of a pandemic, brainstorming ways he could help our community. Since then, Alex has stepped up and become a leader in reminding us that we can truly lean on our neighbors for support during tough times.
Alex started a Facebook group to help support our local restaurants when sales were down over 70%! Thanks to his group, In and Around Pleasant Hill FOOD TO GO During Covid-19, businesses started to see a glimmer of hope!
Walnut Creek, Concord and Pleasant Hill residents helped grow the group almost overnight! One year later this group has blown up to almost 10,000 members! Locals have gotten a kick out of interacting and connecting online through their mutual love for food and our community. They’ve posted restaurant suggestions, photographs of their meals, and offers available during that time. Restaurant owners themselves love posting in the group which allows them to publicize promotions they currently have. Business owners noticed a big difference since the Facebook group began.
We want to say a huge thank you to the support of member, Robin Wood. Robin helped contribute so much to our group from the very beginning, so much so that we made her a group moderator. Group members lover her advice and recommendations, and restaurant owners & staff consider her one of their favorite guests. Her photography highlights some of the most delicious dishes in the area!
April 9th, Alex announced that for every 1,000 members that joined our group, he would donate $250 in food to Monument Crisis Center, local hospitals and food banks.
In June when restaurants started to reopen for outdoor dining, Alex renamed his Facebook group, In and Around Pleasant Hill Food & Drinks. June was also a month of some exciting new events including Happy Hour Thursdays. Business owners teamed up with Alex as a way to thank the community for supporting them during the pandemic. Each week, a different restaurant was featured and had a promotion or freebie for the first 30 members of the group that stopped by to say hi!
August helped bring about more restaurant openings and Alex’s blog featured a list of outdoor patios in the area. Then in October was the first announcement of indoor dining again. Our members jumped on the opportunity to support the restaurants who loosened up their restrictions. His blog that month also featured a list of those restaurants to help boost their business.
Our #zoompatrol contest began Wednesday, September 23rd. Alex wanted to create a fun contest for kids and parents in our community. To enter to win, parents posted photos of their kids or teenagers studying or of their study station. If parents tagged Alex and used the hashtag #zoompatrol, this automatically entered them in a gave away for a $50 gift card or two $25 gift cards.
In November Alex debuted his Facebook page, In and Around Pleasant Hill. This page is dedicated to other small, non-food related businesses and local leaders in the community. To this day, he continues to do doing spotlight interviews in order to support them during the pandemic. On December 1, 2020, the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce held their Hometown Heroes Recognition Award Event. Our very own Alex Khodadad won their Good Neighbor award! This award was a huge honor for Alex, who is constantly inspired by our members, and is so grateful. He believes in always coming from a place of contribution which he learned from his mother at a young age.
In the spirit of the holiday season, Alex partnered with the owner of Roundtable Pizza in Concord, to do a Toy Drive for Christmas. All toys were donated to local charities for kids in need. Not only did many help donate to a good cause, they also received a small thank you gift from Delphi Realty & Roundtable.
It is coming up on the one year anniversary of the Facebook group that started it all! To help us celebrate, tell your friends and family to join our page!
