Many of our local restaurants are down 70% or more in sales and The California Restaurant Association states that 20-30% of them will go out of business if they don’t receive state aid.
In mid-March, Walnut Creek Realtor, Alex Khodadad, started a Facebook group to help support our local restaurants. Thanks to his group, In and Around Pleasant Hill FOOD TO GO During Covid-19, these businesses are finally starting to see a glimmer of hope!
Walnut Creek, Concord and Pleasant Hill residents have flooded in, helping grow the group almost overnight! Members have gotten a kick out of interacting and connecting online this way. They post their favorite restaurant suggestions, stories about the staff or owners, photographs of their daily food orders, images of the menu, videos and share offers available that week. Restaurant owners themselves even love posting in the group, reminding customers that they are still open for business during this trying time. They can also publicize any promotions they currently have. These owners state that they have noticed a difference since the Facebook group began and that they feel that they aren’t in this alone! Alex now has over 3,670 members in just a few weeks time. His goal is to hit 5,000 by May 1st.

Alex Khodadad has also made an effort to get out in the community and interview local restaurant owners himself. He posts the videos almost daily in the group. Since starting the group, Alex has also been featured on Channel 2 News and The Breeze 98.1 with Jack Kulp and Carolyn McArdle.

This form of social media is truly bringing our community together and giving all of us a reminder to be grateful for the people in our own neighborhood.
